Steve Ouellette decorates a tree for the 2012 Mary Bridge Festival of Trees
Festival of Trees: $1.7 million raised for Mary BridgeThe numbers are in, and it's going to be a merry Christmas at MultiCare Mary Bridge Children's Hospital and Health Center. This year's Mary Bridge Festival of Trees raised $1.7 million to support young patients at the children's hospital and health center.
Over the past 25 years, the annual event has raised more than $20 million for Mary Bridge programs, through the generosity of many. That generosity comes from donors, buyers of trees, and the designers themselves - many of whom design trees year after year as a way to give back.Steve Ouellette is one such designer. He and his family have been designing trees for 20 years, since Ouellette was a patient receiving cancer treatments at Mary Bridge."It's a way for our family to give back to the hospital," he said.
This year, the Ouellettes designed a tree called "Let's Celebrate Before I Melt," featuring a snowman tree topper and ornaments with photos of Mary Bridge oncology patients. It sold for $2,173.
