For the millions who already live here, enjoying easy access to the beautiful outdoors as well as to major metropolitan areas is our way of life. Whether you're an outdoor enthusiast, an urbanite or somewhere in between, this region offers a lifestyle that will suit the way you want to live.
Our weather
Our weather is temperate year-round. Tacoma's average annual precipitation is 37.2 inches-less than Miami and New York City-and most of it falls between October and March. Summer highs reach into the 80s, while daytime winter temperatures average in the 40s. In Tacoma and the surrounding communities, snow falls once or twice a year, but it generally melts within a day. If you like more snow, several winter recreation areas are as close as 45 minutes away.
An array of education options
This region offers public and private educational opportunities for all age groups. There are more than six higher-learning institutions in the area, including the University of Washington (with Tacoma and Seattle campuses), University of Puget Sound, Pacific Lutheran University, Evergreen State College and Seattle University.
Living here
Many local cities have invested in revitalizing their downtowns and development has been strong. There are lots of affordable residential options, from new construction to classic Craftsmans and Victorians. Condos, townhomes and apartments are also an affordable option here.
