Volunteer Services
Around the hospital campus and out in the community, volunteers touch the lives of our patients and neighbors every day. Whether it’s greeting visitors in the hospital lobby, visiting patients, baking cookies, stocking the gift shop, providing bicycle helmets for children or giving blood pressure checks to seniors, over 850 volunteers support Good Samaritan Hospital with their time and talent each year. Our volunteers span from working adults, homemakers and retirees to college and high school students. In 2009, these volunteers donated a generous gift of 79,472 hours; an estimated value of $1.55 million.
Volunteers also support Good Samaritan financially—running the two hospital gift shops and Celebrate
Seniority’s Grannies’ Attic Thrift Shop. With more than 100 volunteers running the stores’ operations, this group enjoys the service it provides and is proud of the revenue it raises, which is in turn donated back to Good Samaritan in support of programs and services.
Adult and junior volunteer opportunities are available throughout the organization. Whether you’re looking to volunteer because of an interest in the medical field, to brush up on your work skills, to keep active after retirement or to take a break from a fast-paced career—volunteering at Good Samaritan is a rewarding way to spend your time! Good Samaritan Foundation also hosts a number of fundraising events throughout the year - from gala auctions to golf tournaments - none of which would be possible without our amazing community volunteers! Volunteers make a huge difference from staffing the volunteer committees that oversee event logistics, to the volunteers that pull all the details together from set up to event production. In 2009, Good Samaritan Foundation benefited from the work of over 170 event volunteers who performed tasks ranging from guest registration to pouring wine, from facilitating the silent auction to handing out parting gifts. The volunteer support is remarkable, and some would argue that the volunteers have more fun than the guests!
