Advanced Care for Baby
Tacoma General Hospital has the region's only level IIIB Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for newborns with the most experienced and trained staff and physicians onsite 24/7. New moms and referring providers trust us to deliver the area's highest level of neonatal intensive care for 1,500 premature and critically ill newborns every year. Our experience and support for families is unmatched in the South Sound. As part of MultiCare, trusted care continues for many of these babies as they grow, with coordinated care at the Neonatal Follow-up Clinic and other pediatric specialty clinics at Mary Bridge Children's Hospital & Health Center. We are committed to keeping moms and babies closer to home where they belong. Good Samaritan’s level II special care nursery provides 24-hour care with the latest technology and a specially trained medical staff. A level II nursery can care for acutely ill infants except in the most serious of cases, when infants must be transferred to the neonatal intensive care unit at Tacoma General Hospital.
We understand that the admission of a baby to special care nursery or NICU may be worrisome and a bit overwhelming, especially if you did not expect it to happen. Our team of physicians, nurses and other specialists will work to get your baby home with you as soon as he or she is ready.
While your baby is in the nursery or NICU, our staff will work with you to help you understand your baby's individualized plan of care. The staff will also help you to have as much time with your baby as possible.
