Using the Ball for Therapeutic Intervention for Children with Movement Disorders

September 26 - 27, 2014

  • This 2 day intensive lab course will focus on learning to use the ball as an effective therapy tool when working on impairments, to promote increased functional abilities and participation for school or home.
  • The needs of students with mild-severe disabilities will be addressed.
  • Many ball techniques will be demonstrated and practiced.
  • The WHO/ ICF Enablement Model will be utilized to structure assessment and develop effective treatment plans
  • This course will require active participation in labs, as a therapist and as a “client.
  • Please be aware of your own physical limitations.
  • This course will utilize lecture/lab/problem solving and treatment videos.
  • Loose, comfortable clothing, ideally shorts and tops, should be worn.
  • Please bring a ball suitable for you sit on at approx 90/90

  1. Ability to identify critical impairments to function.

  2. Understanding of principles of treatment on Moveable Surfaces.

  3. Development of hands-on skills with many ball/bolster techniques.

  4. Select techniques appropriate to increasing abilities and participation in school or home


Barbara H Hodge, PT, C/NDT, is a Coordinator Instructor for the NDTA Pediatric Certificate Course. In addition to maintaining a private practice in the Boston area, and teaching short courses nationwide, she works for several international NGOs providing trainings to physicians, therapists and families, relative to increasing functional abilities for children with neuromuscular disabilities.
