Good Samaritan Hospital

Environment of Care Enhancements

Evidence supports the healing benefits of peaceful and aesthetically pleasing interior and exterior designs in the hospital setting. Studies show that environmental enhancements, which include the use of natural light, access to nature, warm colors and sound-absorbing features, can reduce the use of pain medication, lower mortality rates and promote shorter hospital stays.

Good Samaritan’s environment-of-care advancements will include:

Main Entry Circle Water FeatureFountain
The hospital’s new main entrance features a relaxing and artful water feature in the entry drop-off circle. Surrounded by ornamental grasses and shrubs, the water feature will serve as the centerpiece of the hospital for decades to come.

Chapel/Meditation Room
Chapel
While the original Good Samaritan chapel will remain in the existing hospital, a second chapel/ meditation room is located in the lobby of the new patient care tower to provide a quiet retreat for patients, families and staff.

Healing Garden
Patients, visitors and staff will relax outdoors in a large, circular seating and gathering area in the middle of an attractive meditation garden featuring a peaceful waterfall.

Courtyard ArtCourtyard Plaza Gardens
The space between the existing hospital and the new patient care tower – formerly 14th Avenue – has been developed into a series of terraced landscapes with comfortable tables and benches. This seating area is conveniently located outside the cafeteria to provide staff and families with a relaxing place to enjoy their meals or to take a break.

Glass-Backed Public Elevators
To enhance the sense of openness and light, and to provide a panoramic view, guests enjoy glass-backed elevators in the new patient care tower.

Relaxation Ceilings in MRI & CT Diagnostic RoomsMRI Image
Research has shown that patients undergoing MRI or CT scans enjoy a more relaxed experience if the ceilings in the procedure rooms are painted with peaceful designs. The addition of painted, soft clouds amid a blue sky provide an open, less encased feeling, helping to reduce patient heart rate and blood pressure.

Artwork and Interior Designs
The lobby and other waiting areas in the new patient care tower feature original artwork created by local Northwest artists. Attractive design features, such as wood paneling and a comforting fireplace, will provide a warm and welcoming environment. Click here to view a slideshow of this art >>>
