PUYALLUP, WA- MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital is pleased to announce that the Good Samaritan Sleep Center recently received program accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM).

“The American Academy of Sleep Medicine congratulates the Good Samaritan Sleep Medicine Center on fulfilling the high standards required for receiving accreditation as a sleep disorders center,” said Dr. Mary Susan Esther, AASM president. “The center is a significant resource to the local medical community and will provide academic and scientific value in addition to the highest quality care for patients suffering from sleep disorders.”

To receive a five-year accreditation, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as designated by the AASM. The accreditation process involves detailed inspection of a center’s facility and staff, including an evaluation of testing procedures, patient contacts, and physician training. Additionally, the facility’s goals must be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves.

MultiCare Health System offers sleep medicine services in Puyallup and now South Hill, as well as Covington, Gig Harbor and Tacoma. The South Hill clinic is the most recent addition to MultiCare’s sleep medicine locations. Opened in July, this 4-bed unit has state-of-the-art technology to help aid in sleep studies.

“There are a number of things that are monitored during a sleep study,” says Dr. Kimberly Mebust, Medical Director for the Good Samaritan Sleep Centers. “Some of them include brain activity, breathing, oxygen levels, body movement, and heart rate.”
