Garden opens at Good Samaritan to honor community's support
A new Community Garden opened Thursday on the MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital campus in Puyallup.
This new space features a large courtyard with a water wall, with seating for a quiet lunch or chance to get away. The courtyard patio is made of brick pavers, inscribed by our community donors with their own personal messages.
A plaque in the garden opens with the statement: “This garden is dedicated to our community who has supported the mission and vision of MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital for many decades.”
A centerpiece feature in the garden is the large sculpture named “Ringer, Interconnected” by artist Ulrich Pakker. Drawing inspiration from the joining together of different metals (stainless steel and bronze), this work illustrates the bond we have with those for whom we care. The sculpture’s two components are linked together, like one hand in another, to invoke connections between human beings. By choosing robust, permanent metals, Pakker underscores how personal bonds strengthen each of us.Throughout the seasons, this space will come alive with the smell of roses, the twinkling of lights on holiday trees or a ceremony at the flagpole. The time capsule from the 2008 groundbreaking for the Dally Tower rests under this garden, to be unearthed and opened in 50 years.
