Flu shots now available at MultiCare clinics
Flu vaccines are now available for patients at MultiCare clinics in King and Pierce counties. Patients who would like the flu vaccine should make an appointment. To find a clinic near you, visit http://www.multicare.org/home/clinics.
Additionally, patients in Covington can receive the vaccine on a walk-in basis at the MultiCare Covington Pharmacy.
The 2011-2012 seasonal influenza vaccine protects against influenza A H3N2 virus, influenza B virus, and the 2009 H1N1 virus.
In addition to injections, MultiCare’s stock includes doses of FluMist nasal spray that can be used for patients ages 2- 49 who have no underlying health conditions and doses of the “high dose” vaccine, approved for those older than 65.
The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention recommends that people get their seasonal flu vaccine as soon as vaccine becomes available in their community, to ensure that protective antibodies are in place before flu activity is typically at its highest. This recommendation is supported by evidence that annual influenza vaccination is a safe and effective preventive health action with potential benefit in all age groups.
In the United States, influenza activity usually lasts from October to May.
