'Walk a Mile in Her Shoes' to help prevent violence against women
“Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” during Meeker Days to help prevent violence against women and children.
Anyone can participate, but men are encouraged to wear high heels for the one-mile walk that starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 22, at Pioneer Park in downtown Puyallup, right after the Meeker Days 5k Fun Run that begins at 9 a.m.
“Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” is a fundraising event for the Sexual Assault Center of Pierce County and the MultiCare Good Samaritan Domestic Violence treatment program, which is fully supported by donations and grants.
The event aims to provide financial support to offer these services in the community, as well as increase awareness and provide education to help prevent domestic violence and sexual assault.
Join the “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” for $45 preregistration, and the Meeker Days 5K Fun Run for $30 preregistration.

"Put Yourself in Her Shoes"
The Walk a Mile in Her Shoes website offers details: There is an old saying: "You can't really understand another person's experience until you've walked a mile in their shoes." Walk a Mile in Her Shoes asks men to literally walk one mile in women's high-heeled shoes. It's not easy walking in these shoes, but it's fun and it gets the community to talk about something that's really difficult to talk about: gender relations and sexual violence.
