  • With LEED Gold, every day is Earth Day at Good Samaritan

From rain gardens to green rooftops full of native plants, every day is Earth Day at MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup.

In fact, last year Good Samaritan's new Dally Tower became the first inpatient hospital in Washington state to receive the LEED Gold award for sustainable construction and design.

“Our goal from the beginning was to create a healing environment for our patients, their families, our staff and the community,” said Glenn Kasman, President of MultiCare's East Pierce Region that includes Good Samaritan Hospital's Dally Tower, which opened in 2011.

LEED Gold status was awarded based on many green elements, including water and power saving features, two green roofs, rain gardens, and the construction methods and materials used throughout the project. The certification signifies that Good Samaritan reduces waste and harmful greenhouse gas emissions and conserves energy. Gold is one of the highest recognitions offered by the U.S. Green Building Council.
