January 2011
The Patient Care Tower is now in the final phases of testing, inspections, final tweaking and finishing with art, heritage display and donor walls installations in process.
- Final equipment installation and stocking of supplies has begun.
- A big challenge, the new state of the art Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) equipment was successfully placed and brought on line.
- General orientation tours and specific department education and training are in full swing in preparation for opening the Emergency Department, Main Lobby, Patient Access, Gift Shop and Starbucks store February 17.

December 2010
- Temporary Certificate of Occupancy (TCO) was received Dec 10. TCO allows IT to begin installing computers and other equipment to be ready for January staff training
- The glass is being installed on covered walkway from the parking structure to the main entry.
- Work to finalize link connections from the tower to the original hospital is nearing completion
- The glass railing on the open stair from the lobby to Surgery waiting is being installed.
- Final inspections by various entities including the City are underway
- Punch list activity is progressing on all floors
- The Hospital Command Center in the Tower has been set up under the leadership of Kathleen Thomas, Implementation Project Manager
- Furniture and equipment are arriving and being installed

August 2010
Schedule
The project is on target and will meet the December completion and February 2011opening.
Construction Progress
Core and Shell
- Roofs are complete
- Building envelope is 75% complete
- The lighted building mounted signs will be installed by Sept 1
- The connecting links/walkways to the hospital are enclosed and there will be some temporary rerouting of pedestrian traffic to complete these connections in late August/Sept
Interior Build-out
Work is progressing well on all levels.
- Level A (Service) and Level 1 (ED) – Final construction details being complete
- Level 2 (Surgery) – Operating room booms and lights are being installed, final painting
- Level 3 (Imaging, Express Services, Reception and Main Lobby) – final painting, wood ceilings are being installed, donor wall and chapel glazing installation in progress
- Level 4 (Mechanical) – commissioning in progress
- Levels 5 and 6 (In-patient care) – Ceilings and case work are being installed, room mock-ups to fine tune wall mounted equipment are in progress
On-Site
- The structure of the water feature in the main entry circle is taking shape
- The covered walkway from the parking structure to the main entry is complete
- The Emergency courtyard and entry drives are beginning to take shape
- Bench walls in the north courtyard garden are being poured
Off-site Improvements
This work is nearly complete with final lane configuration at 15th and Meridian to be painted August 30, and the flashing cross walk on 13th to be completed in September
Central Utility Plant
The construction of the CUP is substantially complete and has been able to provide supplementary cooling to the hospital during our recent heat wave. The functional testing of major equipment is nearing completion. Training of engineering staff has commenced.
Parking Structure
The parking structure is essentially complete with some final touch up remaining prior to opening. The structure will continue be used by the contractors until the PCT opens in Feb 2011.
May 2010
It has been confirmed with Skanska that the project will meet the December completion and February 2011opening.
Construction Progress
Core and Shell
The final roof layer is being installed as weather permits. Glazing is nearly complete. Final cleaning of brick is in process.
Interior Build-out
Work is progressing well on all levels.
- Ceiling cover has been approved by inspectors on level A.
- Flooring installation is complete on level 1 with flooring in process and painting beginning on level 2.
- Painting has also begun on level 3.
- The case work is being delivered for level 5 and protective acrovyn wall covering is being installed on levels 5 and 6.
- The mechanical air handler floor (4) is undergoing its final cleaning so that equipment can be started up.
Central Utility Plant
The early turn over of CUP is slated for July 15, when the existing hospital will be able to take advantage of the added cooling capacity during the rest of the summer months.
Parking Structure
The parking structure is essentially complete with some final touch up remaining prior to opening. The structure will continue be used by the contractors until the PCT opens in Feb 2011.
Off-site Improvements
The installation of the roundabout at 15th Ave SE and 3rd Street SE was completed without incident in the three week window when this intersection was closed to traffic. Final landscaping and work on the lower part of 15th to provide the right turn lane on to Meridian north bound will be complete by mid July, pending good weather to finish asphalt.

We remain on schedule to meet the December completion and opening in February 2011.
Core and Shell
- Public elevator door frames have been set in place and the finishing of the hoist-ways is in process.
Work is progressing well on all levels.
- Beginning ceiling cover on levels A and 1 with the installation of epoxy walls and floors in process in the OR’s on level 2.
- Low voltage infrastructure beginning on level 3. Levels 5 and 6 are being sheet rocked and taped.
Parking Structure
- This element of the project is essential complete.
- The decorative metal panels that will cover the safety rails will begin installation in mid April.
Off-site Improvements
- Work on improvements to the 15th Ave SE corridor and required relocation of utilities near Meridian is progressing.
- The current focus is on installation of the right turn lane from 15th on to Meridian north bound and peripheral work to prepare for the construction of the roundabout at 3rd.
- The closure of 15th at 3rd for the construction of the roundabout is still scheduled for May 3 – 23.
March 2010
We continue to make steps toward our February 2011 opening of the Patient Care Tower. Here are the latest updates:
Parking Structure
- Decorative metal panels that will cover the guard rails will be installed in April
Central Utility Plan
- Start-up testing of the major equipment and landscaping around the building are in process
Core and Shell
- The crane has been removed
- Installation of the exterior windows is 95% complete
- Installation of the exterior bricks are complete
- Construction of the north east courtyard garden has begun
Interior Build Out
- Installation of all heating, ventilation and air conditioning work is progressing
- Sheet rock installation has started on the 5th and 6th floors
- Review of furnishings, medical and general equipment are underway
- The Art Selection Committee plans to have final selections for the Tower by summer
- 15th Ave corridor
- Construction on 3rd continues
- Work on 15th near Meridian continues
- Planning for construction of roundabout and 3 week closure of 15th Ave SE and 3rd St SE in May
