An Interview with Jo Jacobson
Jo Jacobson was plagued by chronic joint and tissue pain, but was allergic to anti-inflammatory
medications, the recommended treatment for her condition. At her family physician’s suggestion, she turned to Lisa Gainey, a Licensed Massage Therapist at MultiCare Healthy Reflections Medical & Day Spa, for treatment. Jo was looking for someone with medical/clinical experience, a good listener, a clear communicator and a thorough professional. According to Jo, she found all that and more in Lisa.
“During our sessions Lisa listens very carefully to what I tell her, takes extensive notes, discusses her overall clinical plan and explains what she’s doing and why. She also makes recommendations for things I can do at home to extend the benefits of her treatment. I see her a couple times a month and experience significant relief from pain. I really respect Lisa and consider her a quintessential professional in her field.”
In September 2009, Jo was in a car accident that resulted in a whiplash. This sent her to Lisa for a new reason: treatment for her injured neck. Jo works long hours at a stressful job that requires her to be at the top of her game at all times. “I need to be clear-headed so I couldn’t take pain killers. Instead I went to Lisa. She’s my prescription.”
Yet another thing Jo appreciates about Lisa is her willingness to collaborate with other caregivers. “Lisa referred me to Dr. Veronica Hooper at MultiCare. She told me that Dr. Hooper would provide the same high quality of care that I received from her—and she was right. Dr. Hooper has been an outstanding communicator and very thorough.”
Over the years, Jo has recommended MultiCare Healthy Reflections Medical & Day Spa to numerous friends and relatives, and purchased a number of gift certificates for spa services. Not long ago, she and her daughter had a manicure and pedicure there. “The staff are really ‘in the moment’ with you and the place is beautiful. The spa robes and sandals you wear are of good quality, the music is soothing and the products are outstanding. I recently bought some special skin cream they sell there for my sister who is undergoing radiation treatment for cancer. It’s helping to keep her skin nice at the site where the beam touches it.”
If Jo had to summarize her experience with Lisa, Dr. Hooper and the staff at Healthy Reflections, she says it would simply be, “They care. They really care.”
