CME
Educational leave, along with financial support for continuing medical education is also provided: R1s have 3 days of CME, R2s and R3s have 5 days for use as CME. Each resident is required to participate in certification courses. The residency program funds tuition for these courses.
Residents may use CME funds up to $300 for a one-time purchase of a PDA and/or related medical software. In addition, residents are encouraged to become involved with organized medical societies. Membership dues can also be paid with CME funds.
Certifications
EPFM recognizes the importance of providing the resident with tools necessary to manage a wide variety of emergencies. Certifications offered include ACLS, ATLS, ALSO, BLS, NRP, PALS and STABLE.
Meals
Funds are provided to residents while assigned to in-house/hospital duty for residency related responsibilities. A predetermined floating balance based on call points and inpatient rotations will be calculated for all residents at the beginning of each year. Fund use is at the discretion of the resident.
Other
Three white clinic coats are provided for each resident. Parking is provided in the physician’s area.
Housing
Residents are responsible for their own housing except when on in-house call. Residents on call are provided with call rooms in the hospital. Apartments and houses are available in a variety of settings and price ranges within a reasonable distance from the hospitals and the clinic. Residents are required to be within a 20-minute travel radius of Good Samaritan Hospital when on-call. Since several training facilities are utilized in the Pierce County area, automobile transportation is a necessity.
Malpractice Coverage / Medical-Dental Coverage
Professional liability insurance (occurrence type with no need to purchase “tail” coverage) is provided for all residents through the MultiCare Health System. In addition, a comprehensive medical/dental insurance plan as well as group life and disability insurance is provided for residents and their dependents.
