BOTOX Treatments
Botulinum A toxin, or BOTOX®, is an increasingly popular cosmetic procedure that can improve forehead creases, frown lines and crow’s feet. This procedure can have remarkable results in improving the wrinkles resulting from hyperactive facial muscles.
Administration of BOTOX® is a relatively pain-free procedure and is an ideal treatment for those patients who wish to avoid significant invasive surgery or want to minimize their time away from work or other family responsibilities.
Is BOTOX® for You?
BOTOX® is a good cosmetic treatment for:
- Glabella frown lines (wrinkles between the eyebrows)
- Forehead creases (horizontal forehead lines)
- “Crow’s feet” around the eye area
- Platysmal Bands (thick cords or bands in the neck). The cords or bands that protrude from the neck with the aging process may require surgery. However, certain patients can experience significant improvement using BOTOX® therapy.
Your Personal Consultation
When you sit down for your personal, confidential consultation, you will be asked about the results you would like to achieve from BOTOX® treatments. This will help Dr. Rooney understand your expectations and whether they realistically can be achieved.
About the Procedure
In this simple office procedure, a small amount of BOTOX® is administered with an extremely fine needle directly into the targeted facial muscle. The treated muscle becomes weakened, eliminating part or all of its function. Long-standing skin creases will soften and may eventually disappear. The result is a smoother, softer and more youthful appearance.
The procedure takes only 15 minutes. Your appearance will be normal, and you may return to work immediately after treatment.
Following Your Treatment
There are virtually no adverse after effects of BOTOX® treatment. However, you should take these precautions:
- Avoid exercise for four hours after injection
- To prevent spreading the medication to other areas of the face or neck, do not massage the treated area.
About BOTOX®
Botulinum A toxin is a medical protein derived from the C. Botulinum bacteria under special laboratory conditions. It has been safely used for many years in the treatment of eyelid spasm, eye muscle spasm causing crossed eyes, correction of facial-muscle imbalances, and neck-muscle spasms.
