Course Description: This 3-day course will combine lecture, laboratory, video presentations and live demonstrations with children. The current theoretical framework of Neuro-Developmental Treatment will be presented emphasizing critical sequences of motor development, the acquisition of motor control and the facilitation of permanent learning. Content will focus on observational skills for assessment, setting priorities for intervention and the principles of intervention including facilitation, use of environment and use of self.
Course Objectives: The participants will be able to:
Articulate the current theoretical framework that forms the basis of NDT clinical treatment.
Identify the characteristics and key treatment priorities for children demonstrating hypertonicity, spasticity, hypotonicity, athetosis and/or ataxia.
Articulate the variables of handling and demonstrate their application in treatment.
Use observational skills to evaluate the strengths and barriers to performance in video presentations and demonstrations with children.
Identify treatment priorities with associated effective strategies to use in treatment.
