Good Samaritan’s Diabetes Education Center is here to help diabetes patients lead healthy, successful lives. Our registered nurses and dietitians work with you and your health care provider as a team to provide comprehensive diabetes education. Together we address knowledge, skills, attitude and motivation that will support your long-term health with diabetes.Whether you just discovered you have diabetes or you have lived with it for years, the Diabetes Education Center offers a variety of programs just for you. Our services include classes and counseling for children and adults. Services include:

Group Classes
Comprehensive Diabetes Education—Are you looking to learn more about diabetes? MultiCare offers a 12-hour group course for adults with Type 2 Diabetes, providing comprehensive education in six two-hour sessions. The classes are taught by certified Diabetes educators.Daytime and evening courses are available! To sign up or for more information, call: 253-403-1726 (Pierce County) or 253-372-7010 (King County).
Gestational Diabetes—Designed for mothers to be and their partners to share experiences and learn together how to manage diabetes during pregnancy. Two and a half hour session offered every Tuesday at Tacoma General Hospital from 1 pm to 3:30 pm.
Individual Sessions
One-on-one appointments are available for adults with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, those who require insulin pump therapy, and pregnant women with diabetes or gestational diabetes.New to Insulin Pump
If this is your first time on an insulin pump, MultiCare Diabetes Services offers individual education to provide you with the knowledge and the tools needed to manage your diabetes on an insulin pump. The education consists of three separate appointments:
* Pre-pump counsel
* Pump start
* Follow-up visit
During these visits you will learn how to use your pump, preparing to start the pump on your following visit and carbohydrate counting, Program Basel rates, set up and start on your pump, changing tubing and assessing blood sugar results
Upgrading to a New Insulin Pump
Let MultiCare Diabetes Services help you successfully transition to a new insulin pump! Depending on your needs, we offer 1 or 2 individual education sessions providing you with the knowledge needed to continue managing your diabetes with an insulin pump.
