Employee Benefits

Caring for our patients begins with caring for our employees. MultiCare’s benefits include medical, dental and life insurance coverage; paid time off; retirement plans, wellness benefits; career development programs and an on-site daycare center. Employees who work 24 hours per week or more receive full benefits. Employees who work 16 to 23 hours per week receive pro-rated benefits. Part-time employees can also earn 15 percent through our “pay in lieu of benefits” option. Highlights of our benefits program are outlined below:

Medical/Dental/Life

Medical Insurance
Plans are available through First Choice. MultiCare pays the health insurance premiums for employees who work at least 24 hours per week. In addition, MultiCare also subsidizes the cost of dependent coverage.

Dental Insurance
Our Washington Dental Service PPO plan includes coverage for preventive care and other services within the network and orthodontia coverage for children.

Life Insurance
MultiCare provides Group Term Life Insurance equal to your annual base salary. You can also purchase supplemental and spouse life insurance and/or accidental death and dismemberment insurance for you and your family.

Eligible Dependents
You may enroll your spouse, dependent children, and same or opposite sex domestic partner. You can cover a spouse/domestic partner only if he or she does not have coverage available elsewhere.

Flexible Spending Accounts
You can set aside pre-tax dollars for qualified health care and dependent care expenses through automatic payroll deductions.

Health Savings Account
If you enroll in the High-Deductible PPO, you may be eligible to open a Health Savings Account. You can set aside pre-tax dollars for future health care expenses.

Paid Time Off

You begin accruing paid time off on your first day of employment based on the number of hours worked. Paid time off is accrued each year to use for vacation time, personal days and personal injury or illness. A separate Extended Illness Time (EIT) account also accrues hours to be used for extended illnesses, injuries or approved medical leaves.

Bereavement Leave
You may take up to three days off to attend to personal needs when a close family member dies.

Leaves of Absence
If you need more than 30 days away from work for personal, medical, family, educational, or military reasons, you may be eligible for an approved leave of absence. A leave of absence may include paid time off, unpaid time off, or a combination of both.

Wellness Benefits

Employee Health Services
You may receive wellness services at no charge, including blood pressure checks, allergy shots, tuberculosis skin tests, dressing changes, suture removal and over-the-counter medications.

Ergonomics Program
MultiCare employs two staff members devoted solely to ensuring safe, effective work spaces and equipment.

Center For Healthy Living
The Center offers programs focused on Smoking Cessation, Nutrition, Weight Loss, Exercise and Life Balance. Fitness programs are offered in partnership with Tacoma Pierce County YMCA.

Employee Assistance Program
The EAP offers a confidential assessment and referral program for you and your immediate family members. Employees may contact the toll-free number or website for help in addressing a wide range of personal issues.

Benefits to Balance Work and Life

On-site Daycare
The New Adventures Children’s Center is located adjacent to Tacoma General/Mary Bridge. MultiCare employees receive discounted rates. All staff members hold early childhood education degrees or training.

Employee Assistance Program
The EAP offers a confidential assessment and referral program for you and your immediate family members. Employees may contact the toll-free number or website for help in addressing mental health issues; financial and legal concerns; education information; child and elder care; and concierge service.

Other Programs
MultiCare’s Center for Childhood Safety offers parenting classes, custom helmet fittings, car seat safety checks and workshops. In the Lactation Department, you can rent or buy lactation equipment, and a pumping room is available during work hours. The Adult Day Health program offers a discount for employees whose loved ones are enrolled in ADH services and are not eligible for other funding sources.

Retirement Benefits

Retirement Account Plan
All employees are enrolled in a defined contribution Retirement Account Plan, subject to the plan’s eligibility provisions. You choose from investment funds offered by the plan, and invest the funds MultiCare contributes each year for you. You will be vested after three years of at least 1,000 work hours per year. When you leave MultiCare, your account balance is paid in a single payment.

403(b) Employee Savings Plans
MultiCare offers a voluntary salary-deferred plan to help you save for the future using pre-tax contributions. The 403(b) Employee Savings Plan is offered through the Lincoln Alliance Program. A separate after-tax Roth 403(b) savings plan is also offered.
