Chris Egan & Mike Egan
Brothers Chris and Mike Egan grew up in the shadows of Good Samaritan. As Northwood Elementary School and Edgemont Junior High grads, the boys spent much of their youth loitering in the parking lot of Hi Ho Shopping Center, eating at Hoagy’s Corner and practicing Space Invaders at Tiffany’s Skate Inn.
Early employment did not look promising for either. Chris opted for naps in the field rather than pick full flats of raspberries when faced with his first Valley job. Mike was the first major accident at Enchanted Village/Wild Waves, when a roller coaster "mysteriously" ran over his leg, while dressed as an elf. The two did manage to graduate from Puyallup High School (PHS). Chris found success in tennis and basketball, lettering eight times for the Vikings. Mike served as Puyallup’s Student Body President and won a state championship in debate. Chris went on to play tennis for the Lutes and received PLU’s "Man of the Year Award" his senior year. Mike became a Husky and was elected the UW’s Student Body President.
Chris then began a career in broadcast news that led him from Medford, Oregon to Boise, Idaho to his current role as KING 5’s sports reporter and anchor. Along the way, Chris was awarded Oregon’s "Sportscaster of the Year" and has been nominated for several local Emmy Awards. He’s hosted the Seahawks Phone Zone with PHS classmate Brock Huard and coaches his kids, Madison and Austin’s, sports teams.
After college, Mike spent a decade in Washington D.C., as an aid to Congressman Norm Dicks and Senator Patty Murray. He now works for Bill Gates as Microsoft’s Director of Corporate Affairs. An amateur comic, Mike was voted "Funniest Person In DC" and has opened up for Jerry Seinfeld. He is now developing new "material" from his first child Mabel, just 17 months old.
Both brothers married up, Chris convincing Melanie Phair to stick with him since the PHS junior prom of 1990. Mike, meanwhile, coaxed Karyn Kelly to leave DC for the constant sun of Seattle. Six Gore-tex jackets later, she has not left.
Chris and Mike are proud products of the "biggest city to both start and end with a P." Their greatest memories have revolved around the people of this community; from Daffodil parades, to softball championships at the Rec Center, to Puyallup Fair concerts, to epic pickleball matches in the Egan backyard.
Though Chris and Mike enjoy healthy egos, their parents Barb and Ed Egan readily admit that the other brother Brian, is the funniest in the family, and their daughter Jenny is actually their favorite child.
