Pierce County Family’s Get Fit program

MultiCare’s Center For Healthy Living, the YMCA of Tacoma-Pierce County and the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department have teamed up to bring a fun program for families called Pierce County Families Get Fit. This program includes family and child activity sessions, nutrition classes, and lifestyle management, providing families with the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to live healthier lives.

Pierce County Families Get Fit meets three times a week for six weeks. Each session includes fun, age-appropriate activities led by trained YMCA personnel and registered dietitians from MultiCare’s Center For Healthy Living. Once a week, families meet with the program dietitian to learn about nutrition topics including the new food pyramid, portion control, sugar, label reading, meal planning, and healthy snacking. Parents meet with the program dietitian for thirty minutes weekly to discuss concerns and recommendations relating to child and family nutrition.
