MultiCare provides the information you need to make an informed decision about feeding your baby. We understand that whether or not to breastfeed is a very personal choice. So whatever feeding method is right for you, we will give you and your baby the support you need.
If you need advice, MultiCare does support the American Academy of Pediatrics’ recommendation that breastfeeding is the ideal method of infant feeding. If you select breastfeeding, we are dedicated to ensuring that you will gain the confidence and skill to begin and continue breastfeeding your child.
Tacoma General hospital Offers an Array of Breastfeeding Services
Individualized Breastfeeding Consultations – Specialized nurses will help you with basic breastfeeding. If needed, a certified lactation consultant is available to help you throughout your hospital stay and even after you go home.Outpatient Consultation Clinic – Telephone consultations are available Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9am to 5pm. Individual consultations are available by appointment by calling 253-403-1331.
Assistance with Premature Babies – Our specialists are also experts in helping you to breastfeed your special needs baby.
Breastfeeding Classes - Learn about the benefits of breastfeeding, helpful feeding positions, signs of adequate nutrition, support resources and much more. Your support partner is strongly encouraged to attend. For class schedules and registration information, click here.
Breastfeeding Supplies - For breast pumps and other supplies, visit the Mom & Baby Boutique just down the hall from the Family Birth Center at Tacoma General Hospital.
Breast Pump Rentals - Call our breast pump rental line at 253-403-3020 to rent your pump or baby scale today. We offer the Medela Symphony pump. Pump rentals are covered by most insurance if there is a medical need for the baby. Check with your insurance company to verify.

Breastfeeding Support Clinic at Good Samaritan Hospital
At the Good Samaritan Family Birth Center's breastfeeding support clinic, we can help you decide how best to feed your baby. If you choose to breastfeed, we can help you learn how and assist you with any problems you may have once you start. Services we offer include:An expert staff
The clinic is staffed by registered nurses who are international board-certified lactation consultants.
Daily rounds
Our lactation consultants make daily hospital rounds to visit mothers who have recently given birth at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Breastfeeding supplies
We offer a variety of breast pumps and supplies to help with your breastfeeding experience. Pumps and other supplies are available for purchase or rental at the hospital gift shops.
