Life Safety Certification

CPR
Renewal: Courses operate on a ‘drop-in’ basis. Due to very high volumes in the CPR Renewal classes, you must arrive by 3:30 p.m. in order to complete your certification which can take up to 2 hours. What you need to bring:
- Employee Badge
- Employee ID number
Initial: This course will be provided at no cost one time per person, per certification term (two years). Failure to attend a scheduled class (without 24 hour notification of cancellation) will result in a charge for the next class attended. Prices vary.

MHS pays for employees to attend one CPR every two year period for employees whose job requires it. If the employee does not properly cancel and is recorded as a no show, the employee will be required to pay for subsequent classes within that same 2 year period

ACLS

ACLS Online - HeartCode
MultiCare also offers the ACLS HeartCode Online certification course. This is an interactive, self-paced computer module designed for the completion of the ACLS course. It takes approximately 4-6 hours to complete, and will bookmark your progress so that you can continue where you left off. Offered at both Tacoma General and Allenmore campus in the Wagner Libraries, you can take it 24-hours a day.
Registration:
Contact the ILD Tacoma office at 403-1280 to register and be ready to provide the following information:
Spelling of first and last name
Employee number
Position
Phone number and address
Preferred start date and time
Important:
MHS will only pay for 1 ACLS class per certification term (every 2 years). If you are registered for they instructor led ACLS class through Newcastle Training, you will need to cancel your registration before signing up for HeartCode. Otherwise, you will be responsible for the $150.00 cost of HeartCode ACLS.
Also, if you are registered and have logged onto the HeartCode System and decide to attend an instructor led class through Newcastle Training, you will be responsible for paying the HeartCode fee of $150.00.
PALS
To register for PALS initial or renewal courses follow the link to the PALS registration site. LINK:PALS Registration. There you will be prompted to fill out a form that will include:
- Employee Number
- Manager's Name
- Personal Contact Information
- Email Address

Course Textbooks
MultiCare will loan course textbooks to all employees. Please pickup the textbooks at least one week prior to the course. Textbooks are located at the Tacoma General Hospital Wagner Library on floor 3M or in the Good Samaritan Education Department. Employees that would like to purchase their own textbooks may do so while registering online.
Course Cancellation Policy
Course registration MUST be canceled at least 24 hours prior to the course start time. MultiCare WILL NOT authorize payment for additional courses if this policy is not followed. Cancellations can be made through the Newcastle Training website or call Newcastle Training at 425-488-3730 (M-F 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM)

- TG/MB Location: ILD Church basement, 424 So. I Street (right behind the 423 J St Classroom, on the corner of 5th & I street)
- Covington Location: Administrative Conference Room Suite 300
- Kent Location: Kent Medical Clinic, Third Floor Conference Room, 222 State Ave N.
- Allenmore Location: Allenmore Hospital, Basement Classroom
- Wagner Library TG Campus: M Wing, 3rd Floor, between cafeteria and medical records (Heartcode located in back room)
- Wagner Library AH Campus: Go past Pharmacy, take hallway behind info desk all the way around, turn left, pass though door way, the library in on your right.
