Low Vision Program

Low vision can result from a variety of diseases, disorders and injuries that affect the eye, including age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.

Though low vision cannot be corrected with standard glasses, contact lenses, medicine or surgery, there are treatments that can improve a person’s quality of life.

At the Good Samaritan Low Vision Program, our staff is committed to helping people with low vision regain and maintain independence. Our rehabilitation specialists will:
  • Assess your visual impairments
  • Train you in the use of adaptive equipment
  • Educate you about techniques that compensate for low vision
  • Teach you adaptive strategies and techniques for functioning independently

A prescription is required for all treatments. For a referral, contact your ophthalmologist, primary care physician or optometrist.

Once treatment begins, we will work closely with your physician and make referrals to other medical specialists if necessary.
