Low Vision Program
Low vision can result from a variety of diseases, disorders and injuries that affect the eye, including age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.
Though low vision cannot be corrected with standard glasses, contact lenses, medicine or surgery, there are treatments that can improve a person’s quality of life.
At the Good Samaritan Low Vision Program, our staff is committed to helping people with low vision regain and maintain independence. Our rehabilitation specialists will:
- Assess your visual impairments
- Train you in the use of adaptive equipment
- Educate you about techniques that compensate for low vision
- Teach you adaptive strategies and techniques for functioning independently
A prescription is required for all treatments. For a referral, contact your ophthalmologist, primary care physician or optometrist.
Once treatment begins, we will work closely with your physician and make referrals to other medical specialists if necessary.
For more information, call 253-697-4000 ext 1647.
