WHAT IS A NURSE PRACTITIONER?
A Nurse Practitioner is a registered nurse (RN) with advanced education and training, who provides personalized, primary health care to patients. In addition to assessing, examining, and treating patients, Nurse Practitioners advocate health promotion and disease prevention. They accomplish this by teaching their patients ways to become and stay healthy. Because Nurse Practitioners have been trained in nursing, the heart of the profession is CARING for their patients, assisting them to become as healthy as possible.Nurse Practitioners have a unique, holistic approach to care, that addresses the physical, emotional, and social aspects of their patient’s health and wellness. With the current changes taking place in health care, Nurse Practitioners may well be on the forefront of cost-effective, patient-centered, primary care.
