OUR COMMUNITY IS CHANGING and we're changing with it. The new Tacoma General and Mary Bridge Children's Hospital Emergency Departments will be able to better serve:
- Older patients who tend to need more emergency health care and cancer services
- Trauma and emergency patients, as well as a growing number of people who turn to ED's as the first line of care for less critical problems
- A larger community, as the population of Western Washington continues to grow
NEW! MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital Emergency department
In addition to more than doubling the number of rooms available in the department, the new ED offers:
- Open architecture and centralized nursing stations
- Some larger rooms to accommodate very sick patients who need more emergency equipment
- A separate treatment area for patients not requiring emergency care
- Much-needed consulting space for doctors, nurses and other specialists
- Private rooms, each equipped with computerized workstations
- A soothing environment in waiting areas
NEW! Emergency department at MultiCare Mary Bridge Children's Hospital
The new Mary Bridge ED will have:
- A waiting room and treatment areas that are separate from the adult Emergency Department
- A design that calming for kids and reassuring for adults
- Special play and activity areas to engage and distract children
- Spacious exam rooms to accommodate medical personnel, patients and families
- Four pediatric trauma rooms--double the number available now
- 17 single rooms for emergency patients plus 14 more for children who are less sick
