New Heart Hospital
Expanding Heart Care at Tacoma General
Some exciting changes are taking place high atop Tacoma General Hospital. Our cardiovascular inpatient rooms are moving to the top floor, and closer to other dedicated cardiac services. In November 2008, the cardiovascular intensive care and coronary care units will move to the eighth floor of the hospital’s L wing—space set aside during a major expansion a few years ago.
The move of these rooms to the floor above the cardiac catheterization labs and operating suites lines up all cardiovascular services under one roof—essentially a “heart hospital within a hospital” will be unique in the region, says Christi McCarren, Cardiac Services Administrator.
New, patient-friendly features will include:
- Improved access—the cardiac care wing will have its own entrance. All cardiovascular care services will be located in one convenient location for patients and families.
- Room designs and features that promote a calm, healing environment, such as separate nurse, patient and family zones in each room, and an overall design and color scheme that will be nothing like a stereotypical hospital setting.
- Breathtaking views of Mt. Rainier from some of the patient rooms.
