Tacoma General Featured on KOMO-TV for New Radiation Treatments
Story picked up by 40 television markets nationwide
11/1/2008
KOMO-TV recently came to Tacoma General Hospital to see the use of the Varian Trilogy Linear Accelerator, which has recently been equipped with Rapid Arc technology. This enables physicians to target a tumor with such accuracy; it doesn’t damage surrounding tissue, eliminating the side effects of radiation treatment. It has also reduced the time of treatment from 25-30 minutes to as little as 90 seconds, minimizing discomfort for the patient. Tacoma General is only one of eight centers in the country using this system and is the only using it for a variety of diagnoses. Other centers are using it mostly for prostate treatments.
