    20 ways to cut down on screen time

    Limiting screen time can be difficult. By now, you know that too much screen time (TVs, video games, tablets, computers, smart phones, etc.) is unhealthy, but what can you do instead? Here are 20 ideas to get you started.

    20 Indoor Activities

    1. Read a book

    2. Draw or color a picture

    3. Play a board game

    4. Play charades

    5. Work on a puzzle

    6. Make cards for upcoming holidays

    7. Write a letter to a friend or relative

    8. Dance to your favorite music

    9. Play a card game

    10. Help your family make a meal

    11. Have story time

    12. Play dress up

    13. Sing songs

    14. Make shadow puppets on the wall

    15. Have a friend over to play

    16. Build a fort out of pillows and blankets

    17. Organize your room

    18. Look up and observe the stars at night

    19. Stretch

    20. Help your brother or sister with homework

    Ready, Set, Go! 5210 is a community-based initiative in Pierce County to promote healthy lifestyle choices for children, youth and families. Healthy choices are easier to make in a healthy environment with access to healthy foods and physical activity. Ready, Set, Go! aims to improve health in Pierce County by making healthy changes where people live, learn, work, and play. The primary target of Ready, Set, Go! is children and youth from birth to 18 years old, but everyone can benefit from the 5-2-1-0 message.

    WHAT DOES 5-2-1-0 STAND FOR?
    • Aim for 5 servings of fruits & vegetables every day
    • Aim for 2 or less hours of recreational screen time every day
    • Aim for 1 hour or more of physical activity every day
    • Aim for 0 drinks with added sugar every day
