  • Don't Fall Off the 'Fitness Cliff'

    Now that we're well into the new year, are you finding your New Year's resolution motivation waning? Have you been re-thinking your gym plans today?

    If so, you're not alone. According to research from national fitness center chain Gold's Gym, today, Tuesday, Feb. 18,  is the day that's come to be known as the "Fitness Cliff."

    Each year the national chain reviews four years of membership check-in data from Gold's Gym locations across the country. Every year around this time, they've found that check-ins drop significantly.This year the data revealed a drop-off in membership check-ins would start around Feb. 12, with the biggest drop-off taking place on Feb. 18, when large numbers of gym members stopped going to the gym altogether.

    "As February hits, and more and more time separates consumers from the healthy resolutions they made as the New Year's ball was dropping, the motivation to get fit begins to fade away," said Gold's Gym Fitness Institute Member and National Fitness Expert Jamie Eason in a press release. "That demotivation, coupled with a side of frustration from not getting the results they want quickly enough, can often be the dumbbell that broke the camel's back for consumers – leading many to abandon their New Year's Resolutions by mid-month."
