EMS Medics Get Sneak Preview of New Emergency Departments
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) medics were thanked for all of their ideas in planning the new Tacoma General and Mary Bridge Emergency Department by taking a private tour of the new facility.
"Your work is remarkable," Mady Murrey, Vice President and Administrator of Mary Bridge, told the packed house of more than 100 people.
With participants clad in hard hats, goggles, gloves and vests, the tours wound through the current Emergency Department and into the new, bright facility, featuring adult and pediatric spaces on either side.
Members of the Engineering team and the Mary Bridge and Tacoma General Emergency Departments were on hand to lead the tours and answer questions.
As part of the event, Ted Walkley, MD, a Mary Bridge Emergency Department physician, spoke about field pediatric emergency care and urged support for Washington state's EMS and Trauma Committees, which are threatened by looming budget cuts. He also talked about Milgard Pavilion.
"It's just incredible," he said. "The new EDs could not exist if it weren't for the partnership we have with the EMS community."
Cynde Rivers, EMS Coordinator at Mary Bridge, spoke beforehand about medics' reaction to the new facility.
"They're excited about it," she said. "It's a long time coming. They have been putting up with a very small ED for quite some time."
One medic in attendance, asked what he thought, was more succinct: "It was awesome."
