It's a dance party - and you're invited!
Register today for "Do Something Healthy" celebration
He's sambaed with Shannon, jived with Jennie and rumbaed with Ricki. Now Derek Hough is set to tango with Tacoma. And you can be a part of it!
Hough, who has danced his way into the hearts of viewers nation-wide on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars (DWTS), is the featured speaker at MultiCare’s 2013 “Do Something Healthy” event.
Now in its 13th year, “Do Something Healthy” is a region-wide celebration hosted by MultiCare's Center for Healthy Living. Its goal is to educate, empower and inspire the community to place renewed emphasis on health and wellness, says Trixy Dorn, Community Events and Program Coordinator for the Center.

“Do Something Healthy” will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at the Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center. The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a health fair featuring health screenings, exercise and nutrition information, and fun demonstrations, including some by local dance groups. That will be followed with the dance competition and Derek Hough’s interview at 7 p.m.
Each year hundreds of people attend “Do Something Healthy.” And those who do always take away fond memories—and useful information. Come be one of them, and see for yourself what it’s all about.
“This is a very, very fun event,” says Trixy Dorn, Community Events and Program Coordinator for MultiCare’s Center for Healthy Living. “People really feel good afterward.”
Hough’s stuff
Hough is a master dancer and choreographer. With a different partner each season, he’s won the DWTS competition multiple times. He’s also been nominated for three Emmy awards and played the male lead in the critically acclaimed London stage version of Footloose.
But according to Dorn, it’s more than Hough’s talent that makes him a perfect speaker for “Do Something Healthy.” “He’s just so encouraging and so positive,” she says. “I think he’ll be very popular.”Hough will take part in a moderated discussion, addressing issues such as being active, reaching your goals and finding inspiration.
But he won’t spend all of his time behind a microphone. He’ll put on his dancing shoes too! And at some point, he’ll trip the light fantastic and woo the crowd with his musical moves. Before his presentation, he’ll act as a judge for a MultiCare dance competition for teens as well. Groups of local teens have spent the past few weeks filming audition videos for a panel of judges to review. The top three groups will be selected to compete live at the event.
It promises to be a lively, entertaining evening. And even if dancing isn’t your thing, you’re sure to walk away feeling motivated to do something healthy—regardless of what it is.
