  • MultiCare Breast Health receives perfect review for fifth year

MultiCare’s breast health centers received their fifth consecutive perfect review from the FDA’s Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) program.

The FDA found that MultiCare Auburn Health Center, MultiCare Covington Clinic and MultiCare Gig Harbor Medical Park meet all national guidelines for mammography.

The annual review is part of a nationwide program to “ensure that all women have access to quality mammography for the detection of breast cancer in its earliest, most treatable stages,” according to the FDA’s Web site.

The MQSA program requires establishment and maintenance of quality assurance and quality control programs at all mammography facilities to ensure the reliability, clarity, and accuracy of interpretation of mammograms and standards for appropriate radiation dose.

Each site is responsible for daily, weekly, monthly, semi-annual and annual quality control tests. The FDA and a medical physicist inspect each site annually.
