Pierce County shed 15,000 pounds in MultiCare weight-loss contest
Pierce County is 15,000 pounds lighter, thanks to the collective weight-loss efforts of 1,400 residents who sweated their way through the Pierce County Matchup contest coordinated by MultiCare Health System and HealthyWage.
The top team was Wii Unfit, with five members who lost 191 pounds from March 16 to June 8. The team was presented with a $10,000 check (funded by entry fees) from HealthyWage after the Roman Meal Sound to Narrows race June 9 in Tacoma.
Each of the top four teams topped out at the maximum allowable 16.6 percent weight loss per person (the number of pounds each person lost divided by his or her starting weight). The limit is imposed to encourage healthy weight loss; any weight beyond 16.6 percent does not count for the contest.
Since four teams were even, the final rankings were decided by a predetermined tiebreaker: the number of votes each team received on Facebook.
The final standings:
1st Place: Wii Unfit (191 pounds) -- Independent -- $10,000
2nd Place: The CCB (199 pounds) -- Independent -- $5,000
3rd Place: Thin It to Win It (153 pounds) -- MultiCare employees -- $3,000
4th Place: 3 Janes, a Joe, and a Jose (179 pounds) -- MultiCare team -- $1,000
The top team in the Company division was Studio Fitness, with 7.75% weight loss.
