Q&A with John Long, retiring president of Good Samaritan Hospital

Long after John Long settles into a new life as an Arizona park docent, amateur astronomer and warm-weather golfer, the gift of his vision will remain at Puyallup’s Good Samaritan Hospital.
Long will retire April 1, thus capping a career that carried him through leadership positions at each of the region’s three health care systems – MultiCare, Franciscan and Group Health.
His path might have been different had he not been such a good high school golfer. A small-town boy – the son of a salesman and a school librarian, the grandson of a coal miner – Long grew up with heartland values that fused hard work, strong faith and service to others.
