Tacoma General-Allenmore Inpatient Physician Receives Top Honors
Medical Director of MultiCare Inpatient Service Recognized by Peers
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CONTACT:
Todd Kelley (253) 403-1716(TACOMA) – The American College of Physicians has named MultiCare’s David Chen, MD, as one of the nation’s top hospitalists.
Hospitalist physicians work strictly in a hospital setting and provide general medical care for hospitalized patients. At MultiCare, they are employed members of the medical staff and serve patients at Tacoma General Hospital, Allenmore Hospital and Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Chen was one of 10 physicians nationally to receive the honor. He was nominated for the award by his peers in the MultiCare Inpatient Service, a group of physician hospitalists. Dr. Chen serves as the medical director of the Tacoma General Allenmore Hospitalist Group.
Three of Dr. Chen’s peers at MultiCare Health System nominated him for the award and all three told of the importance he places on maintaining physician satisfaction. In the past six years, the program has experienced only a 3% turnover.
“Dr. Chen has been an incredible advocate for our hospital-employed group in many areas including scheduling, salary and self-determination,” wrote Mary O’Rourke, MD, in her nominating statement. “He sees physician satisfaction as a critical part of his job.”
In addition to serving as medical director, Dr. Chen still serves in a direct patient care role.
“I think it extremely important that hospitalist directors also do clinical care because I experience the same things they do,” Chen said.
