Tacoma General honored for Cardiac care
MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital has received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines Gold Performance Achievement Award for its commitment to a higher standard of cardiac care.
Health care providers at Tacoma General Hospital ensure that patients receive treatment quickly and in accordance with nationally accepted standards. Tacoma General is one of only eight hospitals in the state and the only hospital in the South Sound to receive this distinction. This is the second year the hospital has been honored for cardiac care.
“We work hard to provide the very best care for patients experiencing chest pain,” said Rachanee Curry, Administrator of MultiCare’s Cardiac Careline. “This award honors our team of health care providers, who are dedicated to providing diagnosis and treatment quickly to improve the chances of a full recovery.”
Signs of a heart attack include chest discomfort, discomfort in other areas of the upper body including arms, jaw, neck, back and stomach, shortness of breath, indigestion, nausea and light headedness.
Patients who have the above symptoms or think they are having a heart attack should call 911 for assistance. When they are brought to Tacoma General, patients are met by a team of specially trained health care providers who assess the situation and provide treatment in a timely manner.
Home to the highest level of cardiovascular care available in the region, the Tacoma General Heart Hospital is dedicated exclusively to the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases while thoughtfully meeting the needs of patients and families. The hospital clusters cardiac and vascular services in one location, providing patients with better-connected care.
Services available at the heart hospital include cardiac and vascular operating suites, digital cardiac catheterization labs, brand new cardiovascular intensive care and coronary care units, and a chest pain cardiovascular short stay unit. Tacoma General Hospital and area physicians have a long history of leading the way for heart and vascular medicine in the Puget Sound region. The Chest Pain Center at Tacoma General Hospital is one of only six facilities in Washington to be nationally accredited by the Society of Chest Pain Centers. The center is designed to provide diagnosis and treatment within the "Golden Hour" after heart attack symptoms appear.
