Tacoma General Hospital Providing Newborn Screenings
Only hospital in Washington to provide heart defect screenings for newborns
In February 2008, the Pediatric Heart Center at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and the Women and Newborn Center at Tacoma General Hospital launched a pulse oximetry screening program for all newborns to identify heart defects. Tacoma General is the first and only hospital (of around 100 hospitals) in Washington offering newborn screening for heart defects. Currently, two patients have undergone successful cardiac surgeries at Mary Bridge as a result of this testing.Posted on Mar 1, 2010 in
