  • Tacoma General's Kathy Scheffer is ARIN Nurse of the Year

Kathy Scheffer, MN, RN, CRN, nurse manger in Imaging at MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital, was awarded the Association for Radiologic and Imaging Nursing (ARIN) 2011 Radiology Nurse of the Year Award. This honor is the highest given by ARIN.

“Kathy has been a champion for radiology nursing for our organization, community, and state as well as on a national level," said Maurya Radvilas, Director of Imaging Services. "She helps ensure a focus on quality patient care through the continuum of care. She helped build the relationship between radiology and nursing."

Established in 2006, the award is presented in recognition of outstanding radiology nursing practice as demonstrated through leadership, mentorship, and ongoing professional development. This well deserved tribute recognizes what her colleagues have long known.

Scheffer joined MultiCare in 1979 and was the first RN to join the Radiology department at Tacoma General in 1982. An expert at merging technology with compassion, Scheffer is constantly ahead of her time, using her innovation, knowledge and great heart to improve such things as pediatric sedation and VCUG. It is work like this that has gained her recognition on the national stage.

Jim Sapienza, Imaging Administrator, applauded Scheffer's efforts.

“This is an incredible recognition for the attention Kathy has given to radiology nursing, and to networking with national colleagues to ensure that the best practices are present here at MultiCare,” he said.

Congratulations to Scheffer and thank you for providing patients with innovative services in a caring and compassionate environment.
