Newborn Violet Magnolia Shamp, left, wears a Tacoma General Hospital T-shirt from 1981 that was originally worn by her mother, pictured at right in the same shirt.
Vintage TG: Newborn wears 1981 T-shirt her mom received as a baby
The tiny pink T-shirt is more than 30 years old, yet the baby wearing it is brand new.
Violet Magnolia Shamp was born with a flair for vintage fashion.
When she arrived Feb. 4 at the Family Birth Center at MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital, her parents dressed her in a 1981 Tacoma General T-shirt originally worn by Violet's mother, Martha, when she was born at the hospital.
"My mom saved the T-shirt from when I was born at Tacoma General," said Martha, who lives in Tacoma with her husband, Aaron. "I remember using it to dress up my dolls when I was little."
In fact, Martha even has a picture of herself as a baby wearing the same T-shirt. Violet's older sister, Sunday, also wore the shirt as a newborn.
The shirt is printed with the image of a stork carrying a newborn bundle, along with the words "Life Begins at Tacoma General."
Violet Magnolia is almost a month old now, yet the shirt still fits.
"She was a tiny baby at only 7 pounds," Martha said. "The day she was born, the TG nurses called her 'a little bouquet.' "
