Young patients pick out gifts for family members at Holiday Shop
Some young patients at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital can’t leave the hospital to pick out Christmas gifts for family members, so on Thursday, the gifts came to them.
Thanks to the Jim Mora Count On Me Family Foundation, a special Holiday Shop was set up inside the hospital. With the help of cheerful volunteers, children selected and wrapped free gifts for their family members.
It's the fourth year that the Holiday Shop has been offered to children at Mary Bridge Children's Hospital.
“We are very excited about the opportunity to host the fourth annual Holiday Shop at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital,” said Shannon Mora, Vice President of the Foundation, who helped children pick out gifts and wrap them on Thursday. “We designed the Holiday Shop eight years ago back in Atlanta to empower children in the hospital during the holidays to participate in the holiday season by giving gifts and spreading cheer to their own families at a difficult time. The children burst with pride picking out and wrapping the gifts to surprise their families — it is special to work with them and see them enjoy some holiday cheer.”
Mora, who coaches football at UCLA, played at the University of Washington and later coached the Seattle Seahawks. He is a finalist this year for the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year. If Mora wins, he will receive $50,000 to donate to charities of his choice. (Vote once a day through Dec. 20 at http://coachoftheyear.com/)
The Foundation, started by Jim Mora and his wife, Shannon, is celebrating its seventh year supporting children in need by affording them the opportunity to realize their potential and dreams, help create more stability in their lives, support advocacy for children, and support channels that allow children to have a voice.
