  Frisko Freeze, the iconic Tacoma hamburger stand, is the dominant view from Karla Jo Tupper’s office window at the Mary Bridge Health Center. It’s the same view she had 38 years ago as a child, when she was rushed to Mary Bridge for emergency surgery that saved her life.

  A tiger cub who is recovering from a critical illness received a note of encouragement this week from another young patient who knows what it's like to go through multiple medical procedures. “I was diagnosed with leukemia the same week that Berani was born,” said 8-year-old Paul Dawkins as he explained his special connection with the 6-month-old tiger.

  The tiny pink T-shirt is more than 30 years old, yet the baby wearing it is brand new. Violet Magnolia Shamp was born with a flair for vintage fashion. When she arrived Feb. 4 at the Family Birth Center at MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital, her parents dressed her in a 1981 Tacoma General T-shirt originally worn by Violet's mother, Martha, when she was born at the hospital.

  When you look around inside your car, do you see children? If so, join us from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, for free car seat inspections in the parking lot of Babies "R" Us near the Tacoma Mall.
