Patient and Family Support

A diagnosis of cancer cannot be treated by medicine alone. Cancer patients are faced with unique needs for social, emotional and educational support.

That’s why, in addition to advanced medical care, the Dr. Richard C. Ostenson Cancer Center at Good Samaritan also provides a comprehensive array of patient-centered support services including:

  • Education and resource center featuring Internet access and a lending library of cancer and health information materials
  • Nutritional counseling program to help patients stay strong through diet
  • Programs to help patients and their families cope with the unique challenges of a cancer diagnosis
  • Cancer support groups that unite patients and survivors
  • Pastoral care to support the spiritual needs of patients and families
  • Risk-reduction, prevention and screening services
  • Comfort therapies that can reduce pain and provide relaxation
  • Specialty shop where patients can purchase cosmetic, prosthetic and other personal appearance items helpful during cancer treatment

Support Services

At Good Samaritan, we know that effective treatment is not just an effective diagnosis and the right treatment or surgery, but also includes effective, compassionate support services. We provide a variety of support services to meet the needs of our patients, including Rainier Oncology Services, Pain Management Clinic and cancer support groups.
Cancer patient support groups are available, as well as liaison with other community resources.

“Cancer touches so many lives today, whether it is directly, a loved one, or a friend or acquaintance. The new Cancer Center makes the education, treatment and follow-up care more convenient, comfortable and stress free for cancer patients and their caregivers. The people who staff the Center are among the most caring and devoted professionals in the industry. It is ‘the place to go for cancer care’."
