Patient and Visitor Information

Visiting hours

During this year’s flu season MultiCare is working hard to do all we can to protect our patients and Dad with babyvisitors from seasonal and H1N1 flu viruses. That is why we have developed visitation guidelines to help protect those patients most vulnerable to the current flu viruses, such as our Moms in our Labor and Delivery units.

We are strongly recommending that any children under the age of 12 not visit our adult hospitals, Good Samaritan and Tacoma General. Studies have found that children are more vulnerable to the H1N1 virus and are often carriers and can easily pass it on to others even though they may not show symptoms of the flu for several days prior.

We also encourage the following people avoid visiting someone at the hospital, if possible:

• Anyone with signs and symptoms of colds or flu
• People who have weak immune systems
• Women who are pregnant
• Children between 12 and 18 years old

SecurityYour baby's safety is our primary concern, both before and after he or she is born. Our security policy is designed to make sure your family is comfortable and safe during your entire hospital stay.

Good Samaritan Hospital
The birth unit is locked and access is restricted to staff and to authorized visitors who must check in and out of the unit using a telephone system. Each visitor must also give his or her full name when checking in.

In addition, each infant wears a band that will cause an alarm to sound if he or she goes beyond the unit's locked doors.

To help you easily recognize our staff members, each member of the obstetrics unit staff has the letters "OB" in red on their name badge.

Tacoma General Hospital
Each infant wears a band that will cause an alarm to sound if he or she goes beyond the unit's locked doors. To help you easily recognize our staff members, each member of the obstetrics unit staff has pink on their name badge.
