Perinatal Special Care Unit

MultiCare’s Tacoma General Hospital houses Southwest Washington's regional referral center for high-risk pregnancies. If you experience pre-term labor, or develop complications during pregnancy such as high blood pressure or gestational diabetes, you may be referred to this specialized unit.

A Comfortable Place to Stay

While some women may visit the Perinatal Special Care Unit for outpatient procedures, others require hospitalization on bed rest.

The Perinatal Special Care Unit offers private suites featuring a comfortable, home-like environment. Suites are equipped with a TV/VCR, local phone, refrigerator, recliner and private bath with handicap shower accommodations. Suites are also stocked with reading materials and videos to help the time pass more easily. A foldout bed enables the primary support person to remain overnight.

Massages

Massages are available onsite to help relax mom and support partners. Special  pregnancy massages are available on a table designed to accommodate mom’s growing belly. Massage certificates can be purchased at the Mom & Baby Boutique, just steps away from the Perinatal Special Care Unit.
