The New MultiCare Regional Cancer Center at Tacoma General Hospital, which opened March 1, 2010, takes the patient experience to a new level.
A Design Guided by Patients
Early in the planning for the new MultiCare Regional Cancer Center, we turned to experts in the field, our patients themselves, to help design and plan our new cancer center. We want this center to welcome, support and encourage them.
MultiCare Regional Cancer Center represents Tacoma’s first comprehensive cancer center, a place where all of the services a patient needs will be available under one roof and coordinated under one umbrella of care.
Comprehensive Services
In addition to a bright, open, welcoming design, the new Cancer Center offers:
- 33 chairs for chemotherapy—nearly double the current 18 chairs Chemotherapy chairs set up in pods of six to encourage friendship (private and semi-private chairs also available)
- Personal entertainment consoles at each chemotherapy chair
- Sweeping views of the Tacoma skyline and Cascade Mountains
- An expanded radiation oncology center equipped with an image-guided linear accelerator, high-dose-rate brachytherapy and stereotactic radiosurgery technologies.
- A simplified referral process to coordinate family and patient needs
- Classes and programs designed for the well-being of cancer patients, such as exercise and stretching classes, nutrition services, social work support, and complementary medicine
- Makeup consultation and wig fitting
- A multimedia conference facility that can connect with multiple sites
- Centralized computing and network facilities for radiation treatment planning, which can now support all of MultiCare’s Regional Cancer Centers in the region—Gig Harbor, Auburn and Covington
