Our Programs

Children with special needs, vulnerable older adults, parents of seriously ill children - these are just some of the thousands of people we serve through innovative community outreach programs.

Among the programs and services we offer the community are:

BRIDGES – A Center for Grieving Children offers community education and grief support groups to families with children between 4 and 18 years old, who have experienced the death of a parent or sibling.

Child Abuse Intervention Department (CAID) provides medical treatment, psychosocial support, legal advocacy and crisis intervention services for victims or child abuse and their families. CAID also offers strategies for the prevention of child abuse for parents and community groups. CAID's Foster Care Assessment Program works to insure that the physical and emotional health, developmental status and educational adjustment of foster children have been adequately assessed and needs addressed.

Children's Therapy Unit (CTU) at Good Samaritan Hospital helps infants, children and adolescents who have special needs. The CTU is dedicated to helping each child become as functional and independent as possible.

Center for Childhood Safety provides educational resources and services to the community to assist parents in keeping their children safe from preventable injuries; helmet and life jacket fittings at reduced costs at many community fairs and events; and car seat checks and donations of car seats to families in need.

Community Health Fairs include MultiCare-staffed booths distributing injury prevention materials at many community events throughout the communities we serve.

Community Medical Care for Children (CMCC) provides a range of primary care medical services to low-income families.

Community Outreach Liason links with ethnic and underserved communities to provide free health information, screenings and more.

Continuing Medical Education, Medical Symposiums, In services, and Workshops provide educational activities for the medical community and allied health professionals.

Crisis Intervention Services offer at-risk patients mental health assessments and supportive assistance, as well as referrals to other community resources.

Good Samaritan Community Resource Center helps older people and their families cope with the normal and abnormal changes of aging and the typical diseases which can afflict older people.

Good Samaritan’s Encouraging Relationships in the Community and Home (ENRICH) program provides access to community activities for people with developmental disabilities, including advocacy and education, social activities, special assistance, and transportation.

Good Samaritan Family Support Center serves as the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department’s Alternative Response System for low-risk CPS referrals, in addition to providing support, education, information and referral for families with children up to three years of age.

Health Career Exploration Day/Nurse Camp exposes youth to real health care careers through hands-on learning and job shadowing.

Mary Bridge Community Relations Program provides outreach and resource services to the community and partners with other organizations to connect communities to specialty pediatric services available through Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital.

Mary Bridge Helping Hands Fund provides ill, underserved children with financial assistance for prescriptions, transportation and meals.

Mary Bridge Mobile Immunization Program and Good Samaritan’s Mobile Health Services provide free and low-cost immunization and health screening clinics to thousands of children and adults throughout the region.

Medical Explorers provides additional career education opportunities for area teens. This program, which MultiCare organizes in partnership with the Learning for Life division of the Boy Scouts of America, enrolls students between the ages of 14 and 18 at the beginning of the school year.

Adult Day HealthMultiCare Adult Day Health Program promotes greater independence in elderly and physically or cognitively challenged adults through nursing care, rehabilitation, social services, meals and therapeutic activities in a safe and caring environment.


MultiCare Center for Healthy Living promotes healthy living through special events, screenings, forums and corporate wellness programming.

MultiCare • Good Samaritan Home Health & Hospice provides support and care for persons in the last phases of incurable disease so that they may live as fully and as comfortably as possible. The focus is on caring, not curing.

Outreach Education programs include Pediatric Outreach Education, Nutrition Education, Trauma Education and our Perinatal Outreach Program. Our programs are designed to help educate health professionals, parents and patients in our community. 

Parenting Partnership Program is a home visiting program designed to ameliorate the risk of physical abuse and neglect of infants discharged from the Tacoma General Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Sexual Assault Response Center and Forensic Nurse Examiner provide acute forensic assault examinations, along with psychological support for sexual assault victims. Our Sexual and Physical Assault Intervention Program provides psychosocial support before, during and after the forensic medical exam, as well as legal and medical advocacy.

Volunteer Services enhances patient care through community involvement in programs such as Marolyn DarmerBRIDGES and organizations such as the Tacoma Orthopedic Association.

Women, Infants, and Children Program provides supplemental food and nutritional education to income eligible pregnant and breastfeeding women, postpartum infants and children age five and under at six Pierce County sites.
