Robotic Prostatectomy

MultiCare Urology of Tacoma is a pioneer in the South Sound region when it comes to the use of robotic-assisted surgical techniques. Since implementing the area’s first robotically assisted prostate surgical program in June 2005, urologists have performed more than 400 robotically assisted surgical procedures at MultiCare.

MultiCare Urology of Tacoma utilizes the daVinci Robotic Surgical system, and was the first to bring this technology to the South Sound region in June 2005. Dr. Weeks was the first robotic surgeon in the state of Washington to use the daVinci Robotic Surgical system to perform a bladder removal for invasive cancer. He remains one of the most experienced surgeons using the system in the area today.

Robotics technology significantly improves the precision with which a surgeon can operate. It allows surgeons to perform more delicate procedures, and make smaller incisions, so surgery is easier on the patient.

It also offers these potential benefits:

  • Significantly less pain
  • A shorter hospital stay
  • A faster return to normal daily activities
  • Allows surgeons to remove the cancer while bypassing nerves linked to sexual function and urinary incontinence
  • Faster recovery times for erectile function and urinary control
