Greater Precision, Faster Recovery, Better Outcomes
If you or a loved one is facing surgery, there's a new technology on the horizon – and it's already here at
the MultiCare Surgical Care Center. MultiCare is among the select group of centers nationwide that offer robotic surgery using the da Vinci Surgical System.Because the process is much less invasive than traditional gynecological surgery, patients experience less post-operative pain, reduced blood loss, shorter hospital stays and a faster recovery and return to normal activities.
Incorporating the latest advances in robotics and computer technology, the da Vinci Surgical System is revolutionizing the way MultiCare surgeons treat some of the most complex gynecological problems, including the removal of fibroid tumors (myomectomy), removal of the uterus (hysterectomy), correction of vaginal prolapse, and treatment of gynecologic cancers.
Using the system, surgeons direct three robotic arms that perform the surgery using a variety of tiny
surgical instruments operating through small abdominal incisions. The surgeon manipulates the robotic arms from a console that provides a three-dimensional image of the surgical area. Highly specialized hand controls allow the surgeon to make the most intricate maneuvers, which the robot replicates with its arms. The MultiCare Surgical Care Center at Tacoma General is offering this new standard of care for the surgical management of prostate cancer. Using this technology has improved surgical outcomes with respect to impotence and incontinence which have traditionally been undesirable side effects of prostate cancer surgery.
