Growing with You for 130 Years
April 29, 2012, marks MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital's 130th anniversary.
Tacoma General's beginnings trace back to the earliest days of the city of Tacoma. Founded in 1882, seven years before Washington achieved statehood, the Fannie C. Paddock Memorial Hospital opened its doors in a former dance hall on North Starr Street in what is now Old Town Tacoma.
Today, what was once the Fannie C. Paddock Memorial Hospital is now MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital, and the health care mission begun in that converted dance hall has evolved over the last 130 years into MultiCare Health System—the largest health care system in the South Puget Sound region.

And we remain dedicated to enhancing the health of the people we serve, upholding our mission of providing, and setting the standard for, quality patient care in the region and supporting the communities that we call “home.”
As Tacoma General celebrates 130 years of service to the community, we want to say, thank you. We could never have reached this milestone without you.
To commemorate MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital’s 130th anniversary, MultiCare has developed a historic display for Tacoma General’s main lobby, featuring photos and videos from Tacoma General’s past and present. This display will be installed on Monday, April 30, and is available for viewing by the public.
The display includes some video clips featuring Tacoma General from the 1960s through today, that you may also watch online, below.
