Visit Flow

A medical assistant will take your child’s, height, weight, and blood pressure and complete updates on medications, allergy and medical history. Dr. Marshall Thompson, Pediatric Endocrinologist, will review lab findings and do a physical exam related to health risk of overweight.

At this point the child/teen and parent separate. The child/teen meets with our Registered Dietitian to complete basic fitness testing and an interview about the Childs/teens' perception of their eating and activity style. The parent/guardian(s) meet with the Pediatric Medical Social worker to explore how their family works and their perception of how the child/teen is doing psychosocially (family, peers, school).

These interviews are then done in reverse with the parent(s) meeting the Registered Dietitian and the child/teen meeting with the Pediatric Medical Social worker. At this point the family will return to the waiting area (10 – 15 minutes). The Pediatric Weight & Wellness Team will review their findings and complete an assessment summary and recommendations. The summary is then reviewed with the family and goals are set for the next steps in the program.
